I was born at the age of eight. I first heard a snare drum listening to the Black Watch Pipes and Drums practising in the city square in Dundee (Scotland) when I was about...not very old. I first went to school in Dundee, then in country Victoria, Australia. When my family came out here on a large ship, we went along the Suez Canal. This doesn't happen so much now.
I studied Classics and English literature (and some French and history) at University, and was meant to be a teacher. But I really wanted to play drums, so I spent the next few decades playing all sorts of percussion, with orchestras and shows to rock groups and big bands, and contemporary music and very old music.
But earning a living in music is getting harder and harder. So now I drive a mobile library, which is a rather long semi-trailer, and I want to build a dry stone wall on my hill in the bush...tbc
